Climate – Romulus

Climate

The peculiar orbit of Romulus has important consequences for its weather. Figure 3.21 illustrates how the plane of the planet’s orbit tilts approximately 19 degrees from the plane of the primary orbit. This causes the planets to have seasons that are somewhat less extreme than Earth’s and also prevents the planets from eclipsing each other except at the equinoxes. Romulus’ very long day causes higher daily temperature extremes than Earth’s, and thermal winds generated by these temperature extremes reach high velocities in coastal regions. Fortunately, the planet’s lower atmospheric pressure causes them to have less destructive force than comparable winds on Earth.
